John Lampkins known as
"Coach John" is described by many as passionate, patient, and a
spiritually led person for all individuals, especially those who
want to learn the game of basketball. John's skills and training
began as a player at Chocowinity High School. He took the game of
basketball seriously and practiced diligently. His devotion to the
game of basketball afforded his the opportunity too play on the same
team, with, against, and coach some of the most prominent athletes
of our time.
Highlighting a few
athletes Coach John played against are: Tony Midgett (American
University), Brian Rossin- (Retired NBA/Hornets), and Danny Moore
played at Cumberland University and Harry Burres with N.C. State.
John has played
semi-pro basketball with Chavis Height "Ray's Team" League for six
years and a host of tournaments playing against elite players such
as: Jerry Stackhouse 9UNC-NBA Orlando Magic), Donald Williams (UNC),
Rasheed Wallace (UNC-Retired NBA), Ed Cota (UNC-Professional
Basketball Overseas), Jeff Capel (Duke- Asst. Coach at Duke),
Chuckie Brown (N.C. State/NBA-Retired), Gary Mallinson (St.
Augustine), Corey Hightower (NBA), Ricky Price (Duke)
John's coaching and
mentoring accomplishments include many basketball greats such as:
Jimmy Boston (Professional Overseas Basketball-Japan), Tyrone Greene
(N.C. & A&T), Damian Wilkins (NBA-Detroit Pistons), Cor-j-Cox
(Mississippi Valley State), Samantha Smith (Georgia-Southwestern
State), Ebony Lawrence (Charlotte University), and many more.
Today, John
shares his enthusiasm , expertise and experience to the game of
basketball. Currently, he is coaching and ABA-Pro Team East Carolina
Trojans and AAU Gardner Road Youth Basketball team with Founders
David West (NBA Indiana Pacers)/Dwayne West.
John is the proud
founder and coach of the Washington Heels AAU Basketball League with
five nationally ranked players by United States Specialty Sports
Association standards. He also coaches a fourth grade team that is
ranked 20th by United States Basketball Association rankings.
John Lampkins is
determined to continue to make a difference in his community and
lives of youth through his passion and love for basketball.
